A Long Term Solution for Reservation

Consider there are no reservation in the society and all the people are considered as equals. Take the case of an Engineering College Admission. If the students are selected only based on merit, then only top performing students will get an admission to the college. By going for private tuition, people in the privileged community are able to score high marks in the exams. Since the lesser-privileged people cannot afford for this education, privileged people have an unfair advantage over lesser-privileged people. There is also other additional reason which adds to the advantage privileged people have. To compensate this unfair advantage, reservation was introduced.

But Reservation is not a permanent solution. This is only a temporary fix.

The permanent fix for this problem, is to improve the quality of primary/secondary school education in the government & private run schools so that lesser-privileged are able to get all the education a privileged student gets. This will help us in removing the term reservation from the political system. It can be no longer be used as tool to lure the voters.

To reiterate:
1. Political leaders should not give fish for a person to eat. But instead it should teach a person how to catch a fish. If he has been thought properly, he can take care making his food for the next day.

2. It is always best to fix the problem at the origin, than at the end. In this case, instead of giving reservation, improving the quality of primary school education will solve the basic problem.
